Basic Keelboat (ASA 101)

 

Students learn to sail a boat of about 26 ft. in length in light to moderate winds over 2 days - Saturday & Sunday. The course includes an introduction of the basic boat, learning the points of sail, basic sailing techniques, safety and seamanship skills. The class is taught on a Colgate 26 which is easy to use and comfortable for new sailors. Our Colgate's feature spacious cockpits with stainless steel railings and dual controls for the instructor which provides a safe secure platform for beginners. The Colgate 26 is currently used by both US Coast Guard and US Naval Academies to train their new cadets and midshipmen. (After completion of course, students will receive an American Sailing Association (ASA) Basic Keelboat certification, Skill Building session with other students and instructor for 3½ hours, and a free ½ day charter.)

Introduction to Sailing

 

General Description: This hands-on lesson will teach you basic sailing terminology, rigging techniques, and basic sailing maneuvers aboard one of our outstanding training vessels. This program is a great way to be introduced into the enjoyment, relaxation, and adventure of sailing!

Cruising Catamaran (ASA 114)

 

 

An advanced cruising standard for individuals with cruising experience. Able to act as skipper and crew of a 30-50 foot multihull sailboat by day in coastal waters. The standard includes those skills unique to a 30-50 foot multi hull.

 

    Prerequisite: ASA 101, 103, & 104

Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA 103) and Bareboat Chartering (ASA 104) combined into a 3 night, 3 day live aboard adventure. Students learn safe cruising in local and regional waters as both skipper and crew in moderate winds and sea conditions on a 30 to 50 ft boat sailing by day in coastal waters. This includes instruction on meal planning and provisioning, boat systems, general maintenance, VHF radio operation, basic chart plotting and anchoring skills. Also covered in this combination class are maneuvers under power, such as turning in tight quarters, man overboard recovery and more docking!

Prerequisite: ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Certification
