*Coastal Navigation (ASA 105)

Students that operate small boats and yachts of up to 50 ft in length on near coastal and inland waters will focus on navigation using paper and pencil techniques to understand the fundamental techniques of navigation. You will learn how to explain and demonstrate navigational theory while using charts and learn how to determine the course to steer and explain terms and symbols used on US charts. You will also become familiar with the instruments used to navigate coastal and inland waters. Coursework is completed in the classroom and at home.

Advanced Coastal Cruising (ASA 106)

 

*This particular course will coinside and participate in the Galveston to GulfPort Race.

Students learn to safely act as a skipper and crew of a sailing vessel from 30-50 ft. in length in coastal and inland waters in any conditions. You will learn to describe and predict weather, how to anchor in different conditions, how to deal with an engine breakdown in emergency situations, and much more! Class will begin Thursday evening at SCSA. Students will set sail on Friday, and will return on Sunday evening

Prerequisites: ASA 101, 103, 104, & 105 (Basic Keelboat, Basic Coastal Cruising, Bareboat Chartering, and Coastal Navigation)
