Basic Keelboat (ASA 101)

Students learn to sail a boat of about 26 ft. in length in light to moderate winds over 2 days - Saturday & Sunday. The course includes an introduction of the basic boat, learning the points of sail, basic sailing techniques, safety and seamanship skills. The class is taught on a Colgate 26 which is easy to use and comfortable for new sailors. Our Colgate's feature spacious cockpits with stainless steel railings and dual controls for the instructor which provides a safe secure platform for beginners. The Colgate 26 is currently used by both US Coast Guard and US Naval Academies to train their new cadets and midshipmen. 

(After completion of course, students will receive an American Sailing Association (ASA) Basic Keelboat certification, Skill Building session with an instructor for a ½ day, and a free ½ day charter.)

Special COMBO (ASA 103 & 104)/Harvest Moon Regatta

Students learn to safely act as skipper and crew of a sailing vessel from 30-50 ft. in length in coastal and inland waters in any conditions. Students will learn how to describe and predict weather, anchor in different conditions, handle an engine breakdown in emergency situations, and much more! Class will begin Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. at SCSA.

This is a special class that will also be participating in the annual HARVEST MOON REGATTA! The 150-mile race begins at the Flagship Hotel Pier in Galveston and follows the Texas coast south to Port Aransas over the course of 2 days and 2 nights, when the night sky is dominated by the Harvest Moon. The race begins on Thursday and includes an overnight sail to Port Aransas. We expect to arrive Friday evening. After-race activities on Saturday include awards Sail-a-Thon awards presentation, barbeque banquet, race finish and Rum Mary Party. Class begins on Sunday to provision, get acquainted with the boat's systems, and sail the boat back to Kemah after the race.

One-way ASA COMBO (103 & 104):   Early registration: $995*

Round-trip with COMBO 103/104 Certifications:       Early registration $1995*

*Prices increase after early registration and do not include provisioning. 

*Early registration ends July 31.  Fees increase $100 per person thereafter.

*Registrations require 50% deposit until August 1; full payment required thereafter.

Introduction to Sailing

General Description: This hands-on lesson will teach you basic sailing terminology, rigging techniques, and basic sailing maneuvers aboard one of our outstanding training vessels.  This program is a great way to be introduced into the enjoyment, relaxation, and adventure of sailing!
