On Saturday, September 25, join South Coast Sailing Club and Captain Michael Clark for a weekend sail to Galveston Yacht Club and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Saturday morning at 0900 South Coast will provide a continental breakfast while a Flotilla Briefing will take place which will review charts, weather conditions, and float plans.
At 0930, plan to board the boat, stow away your gear and review the boat systems. We plan departure for 1000. It is a 4 to 5 hour sail/motor to Galveston Yacht Club – depending upon winds and tides, so bring your own lunch, snacks, and beverages. We plan to dock at Galveston Yacht Club. After the boat is secure, you will have time to swim at the beautiful pool at GYC, clean up or relax. Current plans are to share a taxi to dine at one of the local restaurants for dinner.
On Sunday, we plan to depart no later than 1300 to return to Kemah, This allows for morning exploration of Galveston Yacht Club or Galveston Island.
This event is a great opportunity to learn how to use a nautical chart in planning a trip, tracking your progress and finding your way safely to a new destination. We will be sharing the waterway with huge ocean going vessels and numerous barges and tows which may require the use of the VHF radio for safe navigation. For those that prefer the more natural side of life, there will also be many opportunities for bird watching and, if we are lucky, dolphin sightings.
