Students learn to safely act as skipper and crew of a sailing vessel from 30-50 ft. in length in coastal and inland waters in any conditions. Students will learn how to describe and predict weather, anchor in different conditions, handle an engine breakdown in emergency situations, and much more! Class will begin Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. at SCSA.
This is a special class that will also be participating in the annual HARVEST MOON REGATTA! The 150-mile race begins at the Flagship Hotel Pier in Galveston and follows the Texas coast south to Port Aransas over the course of 2 days and 2 nights, when the night sky is dominated by the Harvest Moon. Class begins on Wednesday to provision, get acquainted with the boat's systems, and sail to Galveston. The race begins on Thursday and includes an overnight sail to Port Aransas. We expect to arrive Friday evening. After-race activities on Saturday include awards Sail-a-Thon awards presentation, barbeque banquet, race finish and Rum Mary Party. For those students that are not sailing on the return trip, we will provide transportation back to Kemah on Sunday.
